Cosmetics aren’t all chemicals and artificial products

Cosmetics have been around much longer than Clairol, Revlon, Bobbi Brown, longer than Estee Lauder, and longer than any other company you can think of. Cosmetics have been in existence since archaic times, when women attempted the first natural cosmetics by crushing twigs, berries, fruit, and other natural elements to form a paste that became the first natural makeup. They applied these natural cosmetics to their eyes, lips, and cheeks in an effort to enhance the glow that males found attractive and an indicator of good health. This meant that the woman would bear healthy children and, voila, cosmetics were born!

Cosmetics became a permanent fixture in beauty throughout the ages because of that healthy glow. While cosmetics strayed a long way from that natural makeup tribes once made, the cosmetics industry has recently come full circle. Now women can find natural cosmetics and mineral cosmetics made from very similar ingredients to those original cosmetics formulas. Natural cosmetics are formed entirely of naturally occurring ingredients rather than chemical formulations and artificial elements. This means that not only does a woman’s skin look healthy, it IS healthy and enriched by all of the natural ingredients.

Cosmetics like eye shadow and blush have recently become very popular as mineral cosmetics. This means that the powders and shadows are composed entirely of pulverized minerals and stones to make a fine dust, then the dust is combined with natural pigment to form the cosmetics. Why do this? The minerals make the cosmetics last far longer on the skin, yet the layers of powder are much thinner and allow the skin to breathe beneath them. In a world where everything is one-way and trends come and go, it’s interesting to note that one of the trendiest industries, cosmetics, has come full circle and returned to its absolute roots.
