Do you have a good makeup mirror? No, not that dust and powder-covered handheld thing you pull out when you need to. You shouldn’t have to squint to see into your makeup mirror, and it should make it easier to see your cosmetics and makeup, not more difficult. You could have thousands of dollars in makeup, but if you don’t have a makeup mirror it won’t be worth one penny.

That may seem like an overstatement, but the first time you check out your face in a proper makeup mirror you’ll understand. What looked fabulous in your fairly-lit and dusty bathroom will actually look caked-on and fake in a lighted makeup mirror. The importance of makeup mirrors is always underestimated, and this is why there are always plenty of women walking around with improper makeup and poorly-plucked eyebrows.

A makeup mirror can truly make or break your look. The right makeup mirror doesn’t have to be a lighted makeup mirror, but it does have a few necessary elements. First, you should be able to see yourself at both normal and higher magnification in your makeup mirror. Next, makeup mirrors should be easy to clean so they’re always clear and spot-free. Third, your makeup mirror should be big enough to show your entire face yet small enough that it doesn’t take up a ton of real estate on your counter or vanity. It may seem like an optional accessory, but once you have it you’ll wonder how you lived without your makeup mirror.
